This is a completed toy designed for children and/or collectors.
A typical reciprocating engine generates power by having cylindrical pistols go up and down inside a cylinder. A rotary engine (RE) generates power through the rotational motion of a completely different rice ball-shaped pistol (rotor), and Mazda of Japan was the first in the world to successfully put the RE into practical use, and at one point made it their identity. The RX-7 was released in 1978 as a car exclusively for the RE, under the name Savanna RX-7. The second generation was released in 1985, the third generation in 1991, and the series came to an end in 2003.
The third generation RX-7 is the one that Hot Wheels has chosen to release, and it’s characterized by an organic form that makes extensive use of curved surfaces. It is commonly known by the nickname FD (F-D) after its model number (FD3S). The RE itself was also installed in the successor model, the RX-8, which changed its format to a four-door sedan (coupe), but it was less powerful than the FD, which was equipped with two turbos and boasted a maximun output of 280 horsepower; the body was also heavier. The popularity of the FD has not waned, but has continued to grow to this day.
Hot Wheels has faithfully scaled down the actual vehicle to accurately recreate Mazda’s immortal sports car — and now it can be part of your collection! Order yours today!
