The Toyota SORA was first unveiled at the Tokyo Motor Show in October 2017 and began lease sales in March 2018. It became the first fuel cell bus in Japan to receive certification from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (ZBC-MUM1NAE). New Joban Kotsu introduced it as the first transportation company in Tohoku, and it is currently in operation between Iwaki Station and Kominami-hama. The Yokohama City Transportation Bureau has deployed it primarily for operations on the Pia Line.
