Angel Nieto Roldan is a road motorcycle racer born in Zamora, Spain on January 25. 1947. He has been active in the lightweight division of the Road Racing World Championship, winning a total of 13 world titles in the 50cc and 125cc classes represented by the Kreisler 50cc. Nieto himself seems to have regarded 13 as an unlucky number, so instead of saying he’s won 13 titles, he says he’s won “12 plus 1.” This is the second-highest number of titles in the history of the world, and he was inducted into the MotoGP Hall of Fam in 2000 for this feat. Valentino Rossi, who boasts 90 career victories and won 90 races at the MotoGP World Championship held at Le Mans in France in May 2008, also drove the YZR-M1 during his winning run. Raising the flag of “90+90,” Rolddan performed a tandem run with Rossi. After his retirement, he worked as a commentator on a road race program in Spain while achieving a track record as a team manager in the 125cc class. Nieto, who is active in such a wide range of fields, was so popular in Spain that he was called a national hero; however, in July 2017, while driving his quad bike on a public road, he was rear-ended by a car and hit his head. He died on August 3 at the age of 70 years old.
