In the 1930s, many American companies renewed their image with specially designed trucks. These vehicles received a lot of attention in the media and the public loved them. Gilmore Oil Company was among these companies; they decided to replace their traditional fuel tank trucks with a more expensive version around 1935. Designer Wellington Everett Miller of Advance Auto Body Works created a cab-over-engine design, known as COE for short, with the cab located on the front axle and engine. The advantage of this design was the larger cabin with room for four passengers. Its overall rounded design combined the characteristic front fender with the fuel tank; the teardrop-shaped upper structure of the roof fit the aerodynamic streamlined shape of the truck, and the rear twin axle was almost covered. This added a stiffness and strength to the design of this unforgettable vehicle.
